Change Your Life in Seven Weeks
Last Updated (Monday, 29 November 1999 16:00) Written by Thomas Muldoon Friday, 21 August 2009 03:07
Would you like to alter your life? I bet you would. Here's a seven-week programme that will help you to re-focus your thinking and alter your attitude. In fact, altering your attitude is all it takes to create a better future for yourself and it can be done in a relatively short space of time. Follow the simple instructions below for the first week and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the changes that take place in your life. Once you have completed your seven-week programme, come back to week one and repeat the process. Slowly but surely you will begin to take charge of your life and become more confident in creating your own reality.
WEEK ONE: From the moment you awake every morning until you retire in the evening you must accept responsibility for everything you do and say. You must monitor all your actions and reactions and take control of your life. From this week you should begin a deep breathing programme, inhaling and exhaling to the count of four. If you've allowed yourself to become sluggish then it's time to get some exercise. Take a walk in the fresh air or, open the windows and let the world in. During this week reflect upon where you are in the scheme of things, what do you think you have achieved in your life?
Do you feel a success or a failure? It's time to consider your level of debt (credit cards, personal loans, etc.) and, from this week rid yourself of society's modern form of slavery. During this week learn to laugh at yourself and the life you have created for laughter is the best medicine and it's time to stop taking yourself and everything in life so seriously. Life is for living and if you're constantly worrying about your burdens you "sure as hell ain't living." So, from this week it's time to accept total responsibility for this life you've created. No one gave it to you, you and only you chose it and having chosen it you can choose to change it. All it takes is a change in attitude and the world will respond accordingly. Laugh and the world will laugh with you; worry and you'll worry alone. Life is neither good nor bad; it's neither heaven nor hell. Life is all about attitude.
WEEK TWO: It's time to expand your horizons, to talk to your neighbours, to smile at those you meet on the train, bus, ferry or tram. Don't be concerned if others don't return your smiles (they don't know about your seven-week-programme) be happy. Try and do something for a stranger, open a door for someone, let someone take your place in a queue. Make a positive comment to your bank teller, postal worker or public servant, anyone, most important of all, smile; smile and keep smiling. During this week listen to your INNER SELF, find somewhere quiet and listen for this voice speaking from within. If you haven't been to Church or Chapel lately why not pay a visit this week?
If you haven't been to your local park why not do so? Find somewhere (anywhere) where you can be quiet and reflective. Maybe visit the beach or take a walk in the bush. It's important during this week that you listen for the voice of the INNER SELF. When you hear this voice there will be no mistaking its message - listen. It is your choice whether you are happy or sad. It's your choice whether you believe the headlines in the newspapers or not. It's up to you to broaden your horizons to expand your thinking, to free yourself from the trap of letting others determine how you feel and how you should think. It's time to begin living your life according to YOUR rules and not the rules lay down by others. It's time to break free from the past, to look forward to a brighter future and the only way to predict a brighter future is to create one - beginning NOW. If you accept total responsibility for this life you have created and you listen to your INNER VOICE you will be offered clues as to how you can earn more money, make more friends, and lead a happier, healthier life. Life will, if you listen, guide you towards a better way of living, to acquiring the skills you need and to benefit from the opportunities that are abundant in the universe. If you expect you will receive - If you doubt you only have yourself to blame.
WEEK THREE: Concentration is the keyword for this week. If you listened 'yesterday' you were given ideas, encouragement's, insights. It's now time to FOCUS your attention on achieving whatever ideas, insights, and encouragement you were offered. In order that you may bring about your desires you must concentrate with all your being on whatever it is you desire. This week you're being asked to concentrate. Every feeling of desire you have ever expressed or ever repressed has set in motion a chain of events which has led you to where you are in your life right now. Think about it, you are where you are today because you thought about it or feared it yesterday.
You thought about it, no one else. Miracles don't happen, they are strictly do-it-yourself. It is now time to create a few miracles for YOU. Sit down and think about a job which needs doing, a cupboard that needs cleaning, a letter to be written - any job, no matter how large or small, a garden, which needs weeding, a desk that needs organising. It's up to you to FOCUS all your attention on any task, which you can complete today. Go to it, don't make excuses, and make a start right now. Not tomorrow but right now. When you have completed your task you'll discover a simple TRUTH - when you've completed any assignment (no matter how large or small) you're actually in touch with your SOUL, feeding it, nourishing it, and acknowledging it. Before you retire each night you should sit down with pen in hand and in 25 words or less write down what goals you would like to achieve in the coming year. No matter what you write you must be specific. If you've written that you would like to win the lottery then you've not learned anything from your programme. Go back to WEEK ONE and start again. Be specific with your words and in concentrating all your energies you will accomplish your goal within (or even before) the time limit you have set yourself.
WEEK FOUR: This week is all about imagination. You're now asked to imagine with all your might whatever you wrote last week as already being in your possession. Feel yourself surrounded by whatever you wrote. Like an artist you must now put colour, texture, and shape to whatever you wrote down. It's time to give your thoughts, your feelings, and your imagination some dimension. Let your mind run wild if need be, allow it to roam where it will. Don't censor your thoughts, let your imagination take you where it will and never forget, imagination is the most powerful force in the universe - all you can imagine will be yours.
All you ask for you will be given; of this law you can be assured. All that is asked of you is that you imagine you have already received whatever you have written. During this week is the week which will alter your life as you come to realise YOU are the creator of your own universe. The world you live in has been created by your thoughts, your imaginings. Think about this statement for you are exactly where you are NOW because you either thought about it, imagined it, or even feared, yes feared it, yesterday or the day before or the day before that. The creative mind responds to any thought, emotion, and fantasy, pleasant or unpleasant. No questions asked. It then proceeds to attract or create whatever you have imagined. Whatever you have desired, feared or fought against your creative self will endeavour to bring you. There is no other way. Look at yourself in the mirror and if you like what you see enjoy your vision. If you don't like what you see - do something about it! If you don't like or love yourself how can you expect others to like or love you? If you don't feel deserving of a better life how can the universe bring all it has to offer? Whether you agree or disagree you are a part of the universe not apart from it. The entire cosmos exists because you exist. Think about this statement for it is TRUTH. From this week onwards it's up to you to create a better world for yourself and in doing so, for mankind. The only person you can change is yourself and in doing so the world will respond accordingly. All it takes is a change in attitude. The outer world always reflects the inner world. There is no other way. Share this programme/concept with your family, your friends, partner or lover and bring into reality a whole new world for all - email this page.
WEEK FIVE: When you awake each morning do you feel filled with well being? If not why not? This week you're being asked to clear out any deadwood in your thinking and set the wheels in motion for a better life for yourself and family. I ask you (in your mind) to go over the past few weeks of your programme and make any necessary adjustments to what you have or have not done. Today you're being asked to work up a sweat for whatever it is you desire. No one said it was going to be easy, there are no short cuts. Today you're going to increase the pressure. There's a saying: God helps those who help themselves. Today you will come to understand this TRUTH. Today, you are going to set your sights on your target and work up the necessary enthusiasm to achieve your goal.
It's now up to you to set the wheels in motion. Like an athlete training for a competition you must now practice, to hold in your minds eye your objective. Begin to build a positive image and hold it firmly in your mind's eye. No matter what this image may be (and practice makes perfect) it will, one day, become a reality. As long as you hold this image in your mind's eye and are expectant of receiving - you will. If you imagine yourself winning the pools or the lottery then you're escaping into the world of fantasy and are wasting valuable energy as long as you remain there. I ask you to be specific with your goal and expend your energy into achieving it. Step by step, slowly at first, you will soon see your goal becoming a reality. Keep your goal (s) in sight, don't scatter your energies, and keep sight of your objective. If you lose sight of your target you have lost the battle and your INNER MIND will assume the battle is over and bring about your defeat. At all times keep your mind's eye on your goal. No one goes into battle without some kind of plan, so imagine yourself going to war on your negatives. From the moment you awaken in the morning you should have a definite plan of action, something you can accomplish each day. Sure, the unexpected crop always crops up but I ask you is it really the unexpected or, are you fragmenting your energies?
Remember - no pain = no gain.
WEEK SIX: Well, this is your week of reckoning, whether you've really put into practice your seven-week programme or not. During this week you'll discover if you've really altered your thinking or if you've only been paying lip service to what you have read. Old habits die hard and it will be this week you'll discover if they have died or not. Let's face it; you've been attempting to change your life by altering your thoughts.
If your EGO has, in any way, felt threatened or challenged along the way it will have created all sorts of excuses, set backs, problems, etc. Your EGO will attract or create situations where it will seem as though others are trying to hinder you in some way, saying how foolish you are to change. Have you noticed any of this? This is the Ego's way of preventing any changes in its control over your life, all of which allows you off the hook. Make no mistake about it, life is constantly in transit and if you won't allow or create changes you'll find yourself swept along by them and, if you don't learn from them you are doomed to repeat them! If you can't (or won't) distinguish the difference between where you've been and where you're going to where you are now then who does? Of all the weeks in your programme this is the one where you might give up and think it all too much effort. If you do you'll only regret it later and find yourself back at the beginning, wondering if this is all there is to life. Old habits die hard and the only way to change them is to replace them. During week one you took responsibility, week two you became more selective, during week three you concentrated. Week four you imagined an in week five you became more positive. No in week six it's time to look forward.
WEEK SEVEN: Yes, you are special, you are unique, you are fascinating, wonderful, a bundle of fun. This is your life, not a joke. Over the past six weeks you've not been asked to be born again as someone different, to be someone you are not. No, all you've been asked is to change your thinking. You've been asked to rid yourself of old ideas, to change your attitudes, to look at yourself and your life in a totally different way. This means forgetting all the nonsense about being different, and be who you are. From this week onward your life will be filled with more fulfillments, more joy, more wonderment, and more contentment, as you begin to see and understand the wonders of the world around you - the world you and you alone have created. Over the past few weeks you've learned to put your life in order, to accept responsibility for your actions and reactions. Have you? You have, in effect, begun to live a more complete, more aware, more spiritual way of life. You've learned to have fun with this wonderful world that you have helped to create. Yes, you've helped shape this world more than you know and must never forget this TRUTH.
To become a CHILD OF THE LIGHT you must first discover this Light within - this has nothing to do with ascending to some astral plane or some spiritual realm but a simple exercise in building your self-esteem, of establishing your self-worth. Believing that this is your life and only YOU have the power to change things. You've been asked to attempt this from week one - on a day to day basis, to build yourself up instead of pulling yourself down. In accepting responsibility for this life you have created you are NOT responsible for the famines, wars, earthquakes, disasters which happen in the world at any given time. Make no mistake, you are not responsible for them but you are responsible for how you respond to them. Your seven-week-programme will allow you to set the example so that others may follow. Not with you constantly telling them what should and should not be done - but by your actions. Begin to share your life with those around you but first of all give yourself some credit - this is the life you chose, never forget this simple truth. Once you've begun to live your life in the moment you will soon see a chain-reaction in others who, by responding to your example turn your life into a happier and healthier place.
Numerology and Astrology have been my life and passion for over 30 years. I've been published numerous times and still have something new to offer each time I hit the keyboard - who wants to read the same old same old? I believe if you have a philosophy and no one knows about it, it doesn't mean anything. If you have an idea or insight and tell no one - it's meaningless. The One Thing That Changes Everything
Last Updated (Monday, 29 November 1999 16:00) Written by Alexander Green Monday, 17 August 2009 11:49
A friend shared the letter below with me this past week. Its message has stayed with me and I am posting it here in hope it will be just as thought provoking and inspirational as it is for me. Enjoy:
Dear Reader,
Whether you realize it or not, one indispensable quality affects every relationship in your life.
It holds together all your associations. It determines whether you realize your dreams, both personal and professional.
And it virtually defines you to others. Without it, true success is impossible.
Stephen M.R. Covey is even more emphatic. He writes "There is one thing that is common to every individual, relationship, team, family, organization, nation, economy, and civilization throughout the world - one thing which, if removed, will destroy the most powerful government, the most thriving economy, the most influential leadership, the greatest friendship, the strongest character, the deepest love.
On the other hand, if developed and leveraged, that one thing has the potential to create unparalleled success and prosperity in every dimension of life. Yet, it is the least understood, most neglected, and most underestimated possibility of our time.
Simply put, trust is confidence in an individual or organization. It is other people feeling good about relying on you.
And its value can hardly be overstated. Trustworthiness is the universally accepted test of good character.
When you trust someone, you have confidence in his or her honesty and abilities. You can delegate things easily and effectively. You can relax. You have peace of mind.
But when you doubt someone's integrity, question his accomplishments, or worry about his agenda, confidence is replaced by suspicion and anxiety.
Take a moment and picture someone you trust implicitly. It could be a spouse, a parent, a sibling, a friend, or a business associate. How does this relationship make you feel? How easily do you communicate? How quickly do things get done?
Now imagine someone you distrust. How does this relationship feel? How easily do you communicate? Do you enjoy this relationship… or is it complicated, cumbersome and draining?
The difference between a high-trust and low-trust relationship is night and day. In a high-trust relationship, you can say the wrong thing and your listener still understands you. In a low-trust relationship, you can choose your words carefully, be very precise, and you may still be misunderstood.
Sadly, trust is at an ebb in our society. A Harris poll reveals that only 27% of Americans trust the government, only 22% trust the media, only 12% trust big companies, and only 8% trust political parties.
Personal trust is waning, too. Many people nowadays look back on contracts or commitments as something to negotiate. Half of all marriages end in divorce. Many (perhaps most) of them founder on a lack of trust.
Each of us naturally gravitates away from individuals we can't believe or rely on and towards those we can. Low trust is the very definition of a bad relationship. And once you forfeit someone's confidence, it's awfully hard to win it back.
This is particularly true in business.
We all survive by selling a product, service or skill. Yet every sale has five basic obstacles: no need, no money, no hurry, no desire, no trust.
If trust is lacking, forget the other four. You're done. The moment someone suspects your motives, everything you do becomes tainted.
That's why successful companies make a priority of building and maintaining confidence. John Whitney, a Professor Emeritus of Management at Columbia Business School, estimates that mistrust doubles the cost of doing business.
You may have the best product, great service, competitive pricing, mountains of supporting facts and figures and testimonials galore. But if you don't command and deserve trust, you will not enjoy long-term success.
It is never enough to simply invite trust. It must be earned.
In personal relationships, that means handling responsibility, proving your credibility, allowing yourself to be relied upon again and again. It's not just about integrity. It's about looking out for the other person's interests as well as your own.
Employers build trust with employees by assigning them important responsibilities, giving them the freedom to make mistakes, and setting an example. Real leadership is about getting results in ways that inspire confidence.
In a world that changes as quickly as ours, trust is a critical factor. It is the vital currency.
Business consultant Tom Peters calls trust "the issue of the decade." Trust makes work easier and more productive. It makes relationships stable and predictable. It creates a sense of community.
That's why it's crucial that we not violate it. Trust can take years to build but only a moment to destroy. And you may not even get an opportunity to try to restore it.
For each of us - and for every organization - trust is something to be built up, protected, valued, cherished, and carefully preserved.
It is the one thing that changes everything.
Carpe Diem,
Alex
